51 Dreaming

USA | 2020

Runtime: 5 min

Camera: Sony CCD TRV608 handycam

The fear of damage runs rampant in a modern world of technology. Video filmed in damaged/scratch format with damaging sound creates that disconnect between video and audience. Something that is never in modern cinema. Even a callback to the silent era, a field in cinema where damage is still very real and common. Argument can be made whether working with film that can easily damaged makes one willing to make risks. If that’s the case, filmmakers of the silent era might possibly have been of the most dangerous filmmakers.

Why is this an appeal? Why is is interesting to breakdown the field of damaged goods? Angry noise and unreadable footage with a bleeding lens of red. Dreaming of what if the dailies one received weren’t as seemed.
